The Chicago Cubs survived the Washington Nationals Thursday night to advance to the NLCS. Their reward is to face the team with the best record in the majors, the Los Angeles Dodgers. LA will be the heavy favorite but don’t count out the Cubs.
The Chicago Cubs got up off the mat to win Game 5 and send the Nationals packing. Now we turn our attention to the NLCS and how the Cubs can actually beat the powerhouse Dodgers. This should be a great series and any baseball fan — outside of Washington D.C. — should be pretty excited to see some great baseball. We’ll be discussing the 5 reasons that the Cubbies can go back to the World Series once again.
5. Championship Experience
Why It Matters: This is one of the intangibles in baseball that stats and metrics just can’t measure. The majority of this Cubs squad was just in the Fall Classic last season. They know what it takes and can navigate the ups and downs of playoff baseball. Lesser teams would have crumbled after losing Game 4 at home. Lesser teams would have given up down by a run and facing Max Scherzer in the middle of Game 5. Instead, the Cubs knocked Scherzer around for 4 runs (2 earned). Chicago isn’t going to be fazed by anything the Dodgers can throw at them. Championship pedigree is going to matter in this series, especially against a Dodgers team with so much pressure on them.
