The feud between David Price and Dennis Eckersley continues as Price seemingly called him out by saying ‘show your face’.
The drama never seems to sleep with the Boston Red Sox. As the Red Sox won a thrilling contest over the Royals in extra innings on Saturday night, 9-8, Price spoke with reporters following the game. Price could have just apologized for their previous encounter and ended the bad blood but he decided to take a different route.
“Just show your face,” he said via ESPN
“If Eck was around, he’d know who we are,” Price told reporters. “He’s never in the clubhouse. Mr. Remy is always in here. [Play-by-play announcer] Dave O’Brien is always around. Mr. [Mike] Timlin, on the road trip, was always in the clubhouse. He’s the one guy I’ve seen in my career that doesn’t ever show his face in the clubhouse. There’s a reason behind that.”
Eckersley hasn’t been on NESN as a color commentator since the incident occurred in late June. What originally started the feud was Eckersley simply saying the word “Yuck” to describe a poor minor league rehab outing by Eduardo Rodriguez. Price clearly wasn’t happy with what he had to say. Price apparently had an encounter with him on the plane where his teammates cheered for Price doing so.
“I’m standing up for my teammates. That’s it,” Price said. “That’s who I am. That’s who I always have been, and that’s who I will continue to be.”
Price is currently on the disabled list dealing with a forearm problem that sidelined him early in the season. It’s hard to wonder what leadership void has been left since David Ortiz retired. Would this still be going on if Big Papi was still around? Nevertheless, the fiery Dustin Pedroia has rallied around him as the Red Sox look to repeat as AL East champs.
